Thirteen business lenders in the Smarter Loans network serve the province, one fewer than the fourteen on the national business loans page, from $2,500 to $50 million. All thirteen pay out within two days of approving you and ten within 24 hours, twelve consider owners with poor credit, and the two hard gates are the same ones that decide most business applications anywhere: three to twelve months in business, and $5,000 to $20,000 a month in revenue, depending on the lender. The same thirteen serve Edmonton and Calgary.
Two ways, and comparing them as if they were one is the most common mistake.
As an APR, on term loans and lines of credit, from 7% at the lowest published rate among the lenders listed. An annual rate on a declining balance; paying early saves interest.
As a factor, on advances repaid from your sales, from 1.1 to 1.5 among the lenders listed. A multiplier on the amount: $50,000 at 1.3 repays $65,000 whether it takes four months or twelve, and paying early saves nothing. Priced that way because the lender is buying a share of future sales rather than lending at interest, which also puts it outside the 35% federal cap and outside Alberta's high-cost credit regulation, which covers credit agreements at 32% APR or more but not a purchase of receivables.
Several lenders listed do both. The merchant cash advance page works through what a factor costs against an APR over different repayment periods.
Alberta business applications are too few on our platform to report on their own, so these figures cover all business applications in Canada. Applicants ask for $94,465 on average, 31.1% have been trading less than two years, and 49.6% carry no usable personal credit score; the lenders listed are built for that population, which is why twelve of the thirteen consider poor credit. Use the average to check your own request against the size of business you run: most requests are far below the $50 million ceilings, and a request sized to a quote or a gap is approved more readily than a round number.
Six months of business bank statements, because most of the lenders listed decide on deposits. Time in business of three to twelve months depending on the lender, and $5,000 to $20,000 a month in revenue. A reason: a quote for equipment, a contract to fund, a gap with a date. For an advance, your card processing statements. Personal credit is checked because nearly every product carries a personal guarantee, and it sets the tier rather than the decision.
A specific purchase that holds its value: equipment financing or commercial truck financing, where the asset is the security and the term matches its working life. A recurring or seasonal gap: a business line of credit. A one-time need with a known cost: a term loan. Revenue that arrives by card and a need that cannot wait: an advance, at a factor. The application asks what the money is for and routes on the answer.

Term loans and lines are priced as APR from 7% at the lowest published rate; advances repaid from sales are priced as a factor from 1.1 to 1.5, which is a multiplier on the amount rather than an annual rate. Compare within the pricing type, not across it.
Three to twelve months in business and $5,000 to $20,000 a month in revenue depending on the lender, six months of bank statements, and a reason for the borrowing. Personal credit sets the tier; twelve of the thirteen lenders consider a poor score.
Alberta's regulation covers credit agreements at 32% APR or more. A business term loan or line above that line falls under it; an advance repaid from sales is a purchase of receivables rather than a loan, so it sits outside both the 32% rule and the 35% federal cap, which is why it is priced as a factor.
Across our platform, business applicants ask for $94,465 on average; 31.1% have been trading under two years and 49.6% carry no usable personal credit score. Alberta applications are too few to report separately, so those are national figures.
